Let’s just get this out there. Presenter/fashion model/music mogul Cathrine Dal has to be one of the coolest people I know. It may be sycophantic, but the facts are all there: her taste in music is spot on; she has an overwhelming knowledge of the music industry and she’s basically an all-round babe. Cat hasn’t been on my blog since 2012, when she guested one of her many marvellous exclusively for me and my blog, so it’s about time that she’s taking over again! Today, she’s giving us an insight into some of the hottest emerging talent in the country, by telling us about some of the bands who will soon be performing and auditioning for a “money-can’t-buy” slot on one of the main stages at Glastonbury festival this summer.
Cat will be on the panel again this year for the Glastonbury Emerging Talent competition, which has seen thousands and thousands of unsigned artists enter the mothership festival’s annual competition, and with whispers of festival season well and truly in the air, I thought this would be the perfect time to let Cat fill you in on some of her unsigned band tips for this year’s competition.
Over 40 music bloggers have chosen their selection and the long list can be seen here.
Over to you, Cat…
This year was such an incredible amount of talent to choose between, and I was very honoured to be asked to judge. I’m thrilled to announce my top 3:
Capturing delayed guitars, clever vocals layered with rhythms and syncopated electronics up the tempo to an uplighting end-product. Every festival stage wants this feeling.
2. CROOKED HANDS
Stunning harmonies and rewarding songwriting showcase quiet detail that triumphs into cascading joy.
3. DARKTOWN JUBILEE
Polished sounds flavoured with a distinctly UK feel; a good choice for infecting the audience with summer vibes.
The final shortlist of 8 artists will be invited to play at the final in April, where one of them will go on to win the coveted slot on one of the main stages!
Good luck to everyone who made the long-list, from me and Cat!
